Trick or Treat – Create with Connie and Mary Saturday Blog Hop

Just a few days until Halloween. Create with Connie and Mary would like to help you get ready for last-minute holiday candy giving with our Saturday blog hop.

Our theme this week is Treat Holders! Perfect idea.

I saw these cute little Clear Tiny Treat Boxes in the Holiday Mini catalog (yes, they are in the big idea book, but, I overlooked them) decorated for Halloween. I thought this was a great idea for my September and October Card Buffets.

This is how I decorated them –

libbystamps, stampin up, Spooky Cat, Spooky Cat Bundle, Spooky Night DSP, Cat Punch, Washi Label Punch, CCMC

Super cute and, oh, so easy!

I alternated the punched printed cats and I used the same Designer Series Pattern to wrap the box. It reverses well here depending on the cat you punch. I wrapped the box with retired baker’s twine from Stampin Up (last year).

libbystamps, stampin up, Spooky Cat, Spooky Cat Bundle, Spooky Night DSP, Cat Punch, Washi Label Punch, CCMC

I found candy corn taffy to fill these boxes perfectly.

I think I’ll be making more of these to pass out to co-workers. They are too quick to create!

All the Design Team members have created some great treat holders. Check them out. Go forward to Debbie Henderson. Go back to Mary Brown.

Blogging Friends Blog Hop – May – Retiring Favorites

May first and before we know it, the new catalog will be here. This is the first of two blog hops for the day!

Blogging Friends Icon

In honor of the current catalog ending, we will say farewell to some of out favorite Retiring Products. This post is all about retiring products. A few that I really liked out of several that are retiring!

I created five 4×4 cards to share. No particular order. libbystamps, stampin up, Nailed It Bundle, Nailed It. Build It Framelits, Sending Love DSP

From the Occasions Mini, the Nailed It bundle sold out as soon as it went on the retiring list. I just love it – so versatile and a masculine set for once! I paired it with the Sending Love Designer Series Paper.

libbystamps, stampin up, Stylish Stems Framelits, Special Reason, Pop of Pink Specialty DSP

This Stylish Stems Framelits was my favorite flower framelit, also from the Occasions Mini. The coordinating Special Reason stamp set was ok, not my favorite as the words are too small. Of course, I purchased both of them. This paired well with the (soon to retire) Pop of Pink Specialty Designers Series Paper.

libbystamps, stampin up, T-Shirt Builder Framelits, Custom Tee Bundle, Custom Tee, 2015-2016 In-Colors

Of course, the In-Colors are always sad to see leave. At least they are around for a couple of years! My favorite color was the Cucumber Crush! I used the T-shirt Builder framelits, Custom Tee Bundle, to create this. These are also from the mini. I liked the ‘Happy Stamper’ stamp. That is SO usable for us!

libbystamps, stampin up, Birthday Fiesta Bundle, Birthday Fiesta, Fiesta Time Framelits, Festive Birthday DSP, Llama

From the large, main catalog. The Llama. Who does not love a llama? Who? This was an awesomely cute bundle! The designer series paper was pretty cool too.

libbystamps, stampin up, Fresh Fruit, Fruit Stand DSP, pears

The last stamp set I’ll share is the Fresh Fruit. I loved this. It was simply sweet.

libbystamps, stampin up, Gorgeous Grunge, Banners Framelits, Layered Letters Alphabet, 12x12 Kraft Card Stock, box

Lastly. The 12×12 Kraft card stock will no longer be available. I created (from scratch) a nifty box to hold all these cards. And, yes, the Banners Framelits, the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and the Layered Letters Alphabet will not be in the upcoming catalog either. Gorgeous Grunge? I got so much use from this set!

libbystamps, stampin up

Whew. That’s a lot of retiring stuff! And, I didn’t even touch the tip of all the things I really loved from the 2016-2017 catalog. Not too sad though. Can’t be. Lots of new, wonderful items coming our way. If you feel compelled to need any of these or other items, please order here.

So, this is a blog hop, before heading over to talented, Mary Blocher, please leave me a comment.

Welcome to another Create with Connie and Mary blog hop filled with wonderful ideas to spark your creativity

sp15sathopwelcome

Our theme this week is Punch or Die Art. This is a wonderful idea! We all see other uses for dies, framelits and punches other than what they were actually intended for.

I went with the Window Box Thinlits and created a cute little number –

libbystamps, stampin up, Labeler Alphabet, Window Box Thinlits, Stylish Stems Framelits, Large Letters Framelits, teacher gifts

An APPLE!!! Of course it’s for a teacher.

libbystamps, stampin up, Labeler Alphabet, Window Box Thinlits, Stylish Stems Framelits, Large Letters Framelits, teacher gifts

And, a gift card will fit inside the box! How cool is that??

I thought the ensemble was adorable. Perfect timing to create a few of these before you will need them in May!

Blogging Friends Icon

This month our hop features new stuff! So, how about I show off the new In-Colors for 2016-2018?

You know me, I have to have a theme – more than what our general theme is – because that’s the way I stamp!

I created this little nifty holder first –

libbystamps, stampin up, Perfectly Wrapped, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, BFBH, Blogging Friends Blog Hop, 2016-2018 In-Color

Sort of simple in design. But, what’s in the box? Not so simple –

Of course, F I V E  cards!!!

libbystamps, stampin up, Perfectly Wrapped, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, BFBH, Blogging Friends Blog Hop, 2016-2018 In-Color

Yes, a Little Gift of sorts! The focal point here is lol, Dapper Denim!!!

libbystamps, stampin up, Perfectly Wrapped, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, BFBH, Blogging Friends Blog Hop, 2016-2018 In-Color

These cards made me say Hooray when it all came together. Each card has all of the five new In-Colors, one a focal point.

The focal point here is Peekaboo Peach. Looks yummy enough to eat!

libbystamps, stampin up, Perfectly Wrapped, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, BFBH, Blogging Friends Blog Hop, 2016-2018 In-Color

Kudos for colors that work really well together! And, with this adorable Swirly Scribbles Thinlits…….oh my! Makes a great focal point in Emerald Envy.

libbystamps, stampin up, Perfectly Wrapped, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, BFBH, Blogging Friends Blog Hop, 2016-2018 In-Color

This has been a happy day for me that these all came together so nicely! Here, the highlight is Sweet Sugarplum.

libbystamps, stampin up, Perfectly Wrapped, Swirly Scribbles Thinlits, BFBH, Blogging Friends Blog Hop, 2016-2018 In-Color

Thanks for taking a look at Flirty Flaming and the 2016-2018 In-Color friends!

Now, how about leaving me a comment??

Self-Closing Box Tutorial

Well, it’s a pictorial tutorial. I always find myself stopping and starting excruciating 10 minute long videos anyway – so a still tutorial makes more sense to me.

I made this nifty little box on Wednesday. And, in order to create it, I went through several – lots – numerous videos explaining this at length. That’s right. Not my original idea.

So, I created one myself. I made a Marina Mist and Daffodil Delight box because those are my daughters school colors. She’s graduating in June from UCLA with a Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience. Happy dance!!

Here are the finished self-closing boxes –

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Here is how I managed to get two of these from one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 card stock.

Cut card stock in half to 8 1/2 x 5 1/2. All tutorials I came across, the card stock was 8 1/2 x 6. And, that half an inch didn’t do much for me, so, I changed it.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Score at 4 and 8. Rotate card stock.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Score at 1 and 5. (Sorry, blurry picture.)

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Remove section where box will be adhered.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Hard to see, but I placed marks in the upper vertical score line at 2 and 6.

It should fall in the middle of the edge and first score line (at 4) and then between 4 and the last score line (at 8). Mine appears to be off for some reason, disregard.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Make vertical snips down to the those marks. These will make the bottom flaps of your box.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Take your pierce mat and a ruler and make four diagonal score lines from where you snipped perviously to the existing score lines.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

This is a close up of the diagonal lines.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

I did two things in this picture –

  • I folded along the score lines, all going the same way.
  • Next, I added Tear & Tape to secure the box.
  • set aside

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

For this box, I added the Daffodil Delight panels. To cut these to where they will fill exactly, start with a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 square.

Tic mark the center which is  1 3/4.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Make diagonal cuts using your paper trimmer from mark to top corner.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Bring back your box and adhere panels. It’s WAY easier to adhere these now before putting box together. (I only did one side, but using the same measurements, you can do both sides.)

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Adhere side of the box first.

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, tutorial, pictorial tutorial

Fold up bottom flaps and adhere. Decorate and you’re done!!

And, just like that – you’ve made a self-closing box!

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors,

The ‘brain’ came from the retired stamp set, Pomp & Circumstance. Glad I kept it. It was from way back when.

And, just because, I whipped up another one of these self-closing boxes in about 15 minutes

libbystamps, stampin' up, Pomp & Circumstance, Simply Scored, Stampin' Pierce Mat, Self-Close Box, Fringe Scissors, It's My Party DSP, Baker's Twine Combo

Fun, isn’t it? It’s not stamped because I’m not sure who it will be for or what occasion I’ll use it. I’m guessing birthday…

Ok, so, I created quite a nice pictorial tutorial, yes? Please take the time to leave a happy comment!

Happy Stampin’
